Working principle of horizontal spray tower

The horizontal spray tower realizes exhaust gas purification through gas-liquid contact. The core is to absorb or neutralize pollutants in the waste gas using spray liquid (clean water, chemicals, etc.).

The specific process is as follows:

1. Inlet of waste gas: The waste gas enters horizontally from one end of the tower body and flows along the channel in the tower.
2. Spray atomization: After the spray system (pump, pipe, nozzle) pressurizes the liquid, it atomizes it into fine droplets through the nozzle and is evenly distributed in the tower.
3. Gas-liquid reaction: The atomized droplets are in full contact with the horizontally flowing waste gas, and pollutants are physically adsorbed (such as dust adhesion) or chemical reactions (such as acid-base neutralization).
4. Purification gas discharge: The processed gas is removed from the other end by the defogging device.
5. Waste liquid treatment: The waste liquid absorbing pollutants is discharged from the bottom of the tower and enters the subsequent treatment system.

Analysis of the structure design of the horizontal spray tower

Its structure needs to be designed around "improving gas-liquid contact efficiency" and "ensuring operating stability", and the core components include:

1. Tower structure
- Material: Select according to the corrosion resistance of waste gas (such as PP plastic, fiberglass, carbon steel anti-corrosion), to ensure acid and alkali resistance and high temperature resistance.
- Size: The length is designed according to the exhaust gas treatment volume and residence time (usually, the exhaust gas should be kept in the tower for 1-3 seconds), and the width and height must match the spray coverage range to avoid short-circuiting of the airflow.

2. Air intake and outlet devices
- Air intake: Mostly designed as flare ports or gradually expandable types, so that the exhaust gas is evenly distributed into the tower body, avoiding insufficient treatment due to excessive local air flow.
- Air outlet: Located opposite the air inlet, a defogging device (such as baffle plates and a wire mesh defogging device) needs to be installed to prevent the liquid droplets from being brought out with the purified gas.

3. Sprinkler system
- Nozzle: Key components need to have a good atomization effect (the diameter of droplets is 100-300μm, and evenly distributed. Hollow cone nozzles or spiral nozzles are often used; the quantity and layout must cover the entire airflow cross-section to avoid blind spots.
- Pipeline and pump: The pipes need to be anti-corrosion, and the pump head and flow rate must match the nozzle requirements to ensure the stability of the spray pressure.

4. Gas-liquid contact area
- Some tower bodies will be filled (such as bale rings, step rings) or baffles to increase the gas-liquid contact area and time, and improve absorption efficiency (especially for low-concentration waste gas).

5. Liquid storage and drainage system
- Liquid storage area at the bottom of the tower: To store spray, a sufficient volume must be designed, and a liquid level meter must be set to control the liquid volume.
- Liquid discharge port: located at the bottom of the liquid storage area to facilitate the discharge of waste liquid; some are designed with a circulation pump, which can recycle unsaturated liquid and reduce drug consumption.

6. Auxiliary structure
- Inspection holes (for easy maintenance of nozzles and fillers), observation windows (monitoring internal operating status), anti-corrosion coatings (extending tower life), etc.

Design key points
- Gas-liquid flow rate matching: The exhaust gas flow rate is too high, and it is easy to carry liquid. If it is too low, the treatment efficiency will be low, and it needs to be optimized through calculation.
- Resistance control: The structural design needs to reduce airflow resistance and reduce fan energy consumption.
- Anti-corrosion and temperature resistance: Choose the appropriate material according to the waste gas composition (such as sulfur and chlorine) and temperature to avoid equipment corrosion.

Through reasonable design, the horizontal spray tower can efficiently handle dust, acid, and alkali waste gas, and some organic waste gas, and is suitable for chemical, coating, electroplating and other industries.
